BACKGROUND

Canada Goose, originally called Metro Sportswear, was founded in Toronto, Canada, in 1957 by Sam Tick, a Polish immigrant. The company made woolen vests, raincoats, and snowmobile suits for the Ontario Police department and for the Canadian Park Rangers who worked during the severe Arctic winters . In the 1970s, Sam Tick’s son-in-law, David Reiss (David), joined the company. He invented a down-filling machine. He then made a parka specifically for the scientists on Antarctica’s McMurdo Station. In 1982, the first Canadian to reach the summit of Mount Everest, Laurie Skreslet, sported a custom made parka designed by David. These events made the parka highly popular among the local population. David renamed the company Snow Goose...
